I believe that 4-1/3 quarts is the spec, if you also change the oil filter at the same time. I have been running it a little higher, like 4-2/3 or even a little more, with no ill effects. (no leaks, no splash backs up the tube, no oil in the crankcase vent line) The engine seems to run smoother with the oil level a little higher.
